Through the Opening explores the emotional relationship between architecture, light, and memory.
A vivid red field surrounds a narrow architectural opening, revealing a quiet blue space beyond. The doorway becomes more than a physical structure—it represents a moment of transition, a passage between the familiar and the unknown, between presence and absence.
Through simplified geometric forms and restrained composition, this painting transforms architecture into an emotional landscape. The opening invites the viewer to imagine what exists beyond the visible surface, creating a sense of distance, silence, and contemplation.
Part of my ongoing Fragments series, this work examines how empty spaces can hold invisible stories. Rather than depicting a specific place, I use architectural elements, light, and negative space to create a psychological environment where memory and imagination meet.
Original oil painting by Jane M., 2026.
